Duhawks shock Storm in five sets

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Loras battled back from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Simpson College volleyball team in five sets on Friday night.

The Storm (11-11, 2-4 A-R-C) hit .351 across the first two frames to easily claim a 2-0 lead with set wins of 25-13 and 25-11. Eager to earn their first league victory of the season, the Duhawks (7-17, 1-6 A-R-C) evened the match with 25-15 and 25-22 wins in sets three and four. Simpson was the first to eight points in the fifth, but four straight points gave the home team its first lead at 9-8. Loras went on to win 15-13, successfully completing the comeback over the Storm.

Jessica Jacobs led the Storm with 19 kills, Camryn McKay recorded 13 and Aaliyah Johnson chipped in seven. Marissa Salber added four to go with 41 assists, seven digs and three blocks.

Defensively, Iman Ghalibaf had 20 digs, Kaylee McAninch tallied 11 and Rachel Hardwick posted nine. Peyton Mitchell had a season-high eight blocks highlighted by two solo denials.

Simpson finished the match with eight more kills and four fewer errors than the hosts.
