Simpson volleyball wins first two matches of 2022

BELOIT, Wis. - The Simpson College volleyball team kicked off its 2022 season on a high note, notching two 3-1 victories on opening day in Wisconsin.

The Storm (2-0) defeated Martin Luther (1-1) by set scores of 25-22, 25-27, 25-21 and 25-18 before beating host Beloit (1-1) in another four-set match, 25-20, 25-15, 21-25 and 25-12.

Overall, Simpson hit .317 while holding its opponent to a .129 attacking percentage. The Storm did most of their damage in the fourth set of each match, knocking down 26 kills with just three miscues for a .547 efficiency.

Jessica Jacobs accounted for 29 of the Storm's 91 kills, hitting .457 between the two matches. Josie O'Brien tallied 11 kills, Courtney Paxton added nine, and Marissa Salber and Lexie Parks each had seven.

Defensively, Iman Ghalibaf led the way with 27 digs. Jacobs registered nine digs followed by Rachel Hardwick who recorded six while also serving up seven aces on the night. Ghalibaf and Salber combined for nine more aces, and Salber tallied 45 assists.

The Storm will make their way to the other host site of the Wisconsin Blast, the campus of UW-Whitewater, on Saturday for two more matches. Simpson will take on Ripon at 12 p.m. and No. 16 UW-Whitewater at 2 p.m. Live stats will be available for both games with the nightcap also being streamed live here.
