Simpson volleyball goes 2-1 at Millikin Invitational

DECATUR, Ill. – The Simpson College volleyball team went 2-1 at the Millikin Invitational this weekend, winning both Saturday matches to improve to 10-8 on the season.

The Storm rebounded from three-set loss to Millikin on Friday night with a 3-1 victory over Fontbonne followed by a sweep of Eureka.

Against the hosts of the invitational, Simpson fell behind 1-0 after the Big Blue (11-5) took set one 25-17. Millikin then posted back-to-back 25-18 set wins to secure its seventh sweep of the year. Jessica Jacobs and Lexie Parks combined for 20 of the Storm's 26 kills, and Iman Ghalibaf led the defense with 15 digs.

The Storm began their Saturday doubleheader with a morning victory over Fontbonne. Simpson won the first set 25-18 before the Griffins (5-5) swiped the second in extras, 26-24. A 25-20 victory in the third set put the Storm ahead 2-1, and Simpson shut the door with a 25-13 fourth-set win.

In the final match of the weekend, Simpson got off to a dominating start with a 25-9 win. The Storm committed just one error in 24 swings and were led by Parks and Jacobs with five and four kills, respectively. The second set was much closer, but Simpson still came out on top 25-21 before claiming the sweep with a 25-16 win in the third.

Between the two wins, Jacobs compiled 23 kills followed by Parks with 19 and Peyton Mitchell with 16. Salber tallied 61 assists and 15 digs, while Ghalibaf registered 38 digs. Autumn Finch had 10 total blocks and Ragan Shelgren led the team at the service line with seven aces.

Up Next
Simpson plays its final nonconference game of the season at Grinnell on Wednesday. The Storm will then conclude their home schedule with matches against Coe and Wartburg on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
