DePover leads Storm at Austin College Invite

SHERMAN, Texas -- The Simpson swimming and diving teams wrapped up their trip through Texas on Saturday in the Austin College Invitational. The women ended sixth and the men in seventh, highlighted by a second-place performance from Danny Turner.

In a field of 13 swimmers in the 200-yard breaststroke, Turner hit the wall in 2:18.75 for his runner-up performance. Turner added another top-five result with a fifth-place nod in the 100-yard breaststroke. His time of 1:03.04 placed him near the top of the 23-swimmer event.

Blake Kakacek ended eighth in the 200-yard backstroke in his first outing in the event all season. Kakacek turned in an 11th-place result in the 100 backstroke.

On the women's side, Madison DePover guided the Storm with a sixth-place mark in the 500-yard freestyle. Katie Cardoza and Angela Eppens finished seventh and eighth, respectively, after DePover. DePover and Cardoza went back-to-back in the 1000-yard freestyle in seventh and eighth.

Caroline Oberg added seventh place in the 50-yard freestyle to her performance sheet. Alyssa Harris ended 10th in the 100-yard backstroke.

The 200-yard medley relay of Harris, DePover, Cardoza and Oberg ended eighth, while the same quartet ended 10th in the 200 freestyle relay.
