Storm swimmers compete against Coe in home debut

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Danny Turner's win in the 50-yard breaststroke led the way for the Simpson swimming and diving teams at the Indianola YMCA against Coe on Friday in the team's home opener.

Turner (28.85) finished atop the rankings in a close race, beating the Kohawks' Luke Baldwin by a mere .03 seconds. Later at the meet, Turner placed second behind Baldwin (27.17) in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 28.01. The freshman placed third overall in the men's individual rankings for the meet.

In front for the Simpson women's team was Alyssa Harris with a sixth-place spot in the overall women's rankings. Harris' best race of the day was the 50-yard butterfly where she placed fourth with a time of 30.98. Harris finished first, for the Storm, in every event except for the 50-yard freestyle.

Simpson ended the mixed 200-yard medley relay in 1:53.53 to earn second place. The quartet consisted of Austin Andes, Caroline Oberg, Harris and Turner.

The Storm will be back in the pool next Saturday in Leavenworth, Kan. to face off against Tabor and Saint Mary's.
