Harris guides Storm women

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Danny Turner garnered three first-place finishes and Alyssa Harris added a first-place mark to highlight the Simpson men's and women's swimming teams against Morningside and Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday.

The Storm women lost 187-54 to the Mustangs and 147-52 to the Prairie Wolves, while the men came up short to Morningside, 384-93 and 321-94 to the host, Nebraska Wesleyan, in Lincoln, Neb.

Turner trimmed three seconds off his previous best in the 100-yard breaststroke to hit the wall in 1:01.95 to finish first for the men. The freshman collected his second first-place nod on the day in the 200-yard breaststroke by finishing in 2:18.37, nearly three seconds ahead of second place. His final top honor came in the 200-yard individual medley race with a mark of 2:10.08, three seconds quicker from his season best.

Harris grabbed her top result in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:26.81, which was eight seconds quicker than second place during the event. Harris produced two top-three performances in addition to the first-place finish, one coming in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events.

Caroline Oberg received third in the 100-yard breaststroke and Sarah Prendergast ended third in the 500-yard freestyle. Madison DePover (1000-yard freestyle), the 200-yard freestyle relay of Katie Cardoza, DePover, Oberg and Prendergast, the 200-yard medley quartet of Harris, Oberg, Cardoza and Prendergast, and a lone Predergast in the 200-yard freestyle all tallied a fourth-place nod in their respective events.

Austin Andes dialed in two top-five placings at the meet in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle for the Simpson men.

Both teams are in action this Friday, Nov. 8 as Coe visits town for a dual meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Indianola YMCA.
