Storm women end day one of Pioneer Classic in seventh

GRINNELL, Iowa -- Alyssa Harris grabbed the best finish for the Simpson swimming and diving teams on the first night of the Grinnell Pioneer Classic on Friday as the women's team sits in seventh out of 12 teams and the men do not have a team score.

Harris hit the wall in 2:19.81 in the 200-yard individual medley for a sixth-place finish to capture 17 of the Storm's 84 points. The mark is now Harris' career best in the event as she clipped her previous-best time of 2:19.40.

The 400-yard medley relay of Madison DePover, Katie Cardoza, Sarah Prendergast and Harris finished 15th and trimmed 11 seconds off the team's previous result in the race with a time of 4:33.22. The 200 freestyle relay of Caroline Oberg, Harris, DePover and Cardoza finished 19th.

Oberg also tallied an 18th-place nod in the 50-yard freestyle. Prendergast finished the 500-yard freestyle in 19th, while DePover came in 59th and Cardoza in 61st in the 69-person event.

On the men's side, Danny Turner ended 40th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.71, for a new personal best. Austin Andes ended 59th and Blake Kakacek finished 75th in the event. Andes had his best race in the 200-yard individual medley with a 52nd-place finish.
