Storm wrap up year with third-place finish

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson College men and women's golf teams hosted their home event in the Storm Spring Classic at the Indianola Country Club on Wednesday, as the women finished their 2022-23 campaign with a third-place finish and the men's varsity team took fourth overall.

The women took third of out five scoring teams, led once again by Madeline Streicher, who carded a 78 to tie for third place individually. Streicher's round of 78 tied her season low that she previously shot at the BVU Fall Invite in September. Joann Martin shot an 89 to tie for 14th, while Kristen Roe recorded a 91 playing as an individual. Taylor Elam finished just inside the top 20 with a 92, while Madison Wardlow (93) and Miranda Deppe (95) rounded out the Storm lineup.

On the men's side, the varsity squad took fourth out of nine teams, as Isaac Roe led the way with a season-low 75 to tie for 10th. Roe's 75 also tied his career-best at Simpson. Brendan Bayeur, playing on the Simpson Gold team, also shot a 75 to tie for 10th, besting his career-low by two strokes.

Garin Grinstead was a stroke behind, carding a 76 to tie for 16th. Jack Wahman and Blake Perrin each recorded a 77 to finish inside the top 20 in a tie for 18th, while Bradley Kofoed rounded out the varsity scoring lineup with an 80.

Along with Bayeur, the Simpson Gold team had one more player go under 80, with Jackson Mears shooting a 79, to easily surpass his best round as a Storm golfer.

The women's season has now concluded, but the men are back in action next Friday for their last tournament before the American Rivers Conference Championships. The men will play next Friday and Saturday at the Viking Invitational before taking part at the A-R-C Championships, scheduled to begin on May 4.
