Trio earn all-conference honors for Simpson men

PELLA, Iowa -- For the first time since 1988, Simpson men's cross country had three all-conference performers as the Storm ended third for their best team finish since 1990 at the American Rivers Conference Championships on Saturday.

"Today was a special day for our program," head coach Heath Moenck said. "To place third in one of the premiere conferences in the country is incredible. I couldn't be more proud of our men and the commitment they make to this program and each other."

At the Central College Cross Country Course, Simpson had the second most all-conference performers with three as first-place Wartburg led the way with five. Loras ended second overall, Luther was fourth and the Dutch rounded out the top five.

Sophomore Spencer Moon tallied fourth for Simpson's best individual finish since Dave Halferty recorded first in 1989. Senior Harry Dudley capped off his career with a 10th-place showing and sophomore Eric Baldus crossed in 12th.

"Spencer, Harry and Eric were outstanding today," said Moenck. "To earn all-conference in the A-R-C is no small feat and to have three in the same year was amazing."

Senior Ryan Courtney raced to 31st for his best finish at the league championships during his career and sophomore Noah Nelsen was two spots behind his teammate in 33rd. Senior Seth Nostrala closed out his career in 37th to climb 17 spots from his previous best at the league championships.

Freshman James Murray was 53rd overall and senior Shane Breheny was one spot behind in 54th to round out the top eight for the Storm.

The men bring back four of their top seven runners from the championships for next year's campaign.
