Storm men sweep top three spots, win Coe Triangular

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Simpson College men's cross country team swept the top three spots on the way to winning the Coe Triangular on Saturday.

The trio of Spencer Moon, Harry Dudley and Eric Baldus finished one, two, three in the field of 57 runners. The Storm edged Luther and Coe in the triangular, the final tune-up before the conference championship.

"Our men ran outstanding today," head coach Heath Moenck said. "This was by far our best race of the season. The men have high goals for the conference championships and today was a great performance two weeks out. Spencer Moon ran terrific once again and Eric Baldus and Ryan Courtney both stepped up to help us beat a very good Luther team."

Moon won for the third time in four meets this fall, navigating the 8k course in 25:15. Dudley shaved 18 seconds off his previous season-best, finishing in 25:31 to place second overall. Baldus also had a season-best effort, finishing in 25:33, cutting 39 seconds off his previous low mark.

Courtney owned the No. 4 spot for the Storm, his best team finish of the season. He ran 26:05 to place ninth overall. Noah Nelsen made it five Simpson runners in the top 10 by placing 10th, finishing in 26:17.

Andrew Klein and Shane Breheny rounded out the Storm's varsity finishers.
