Storm men shine to win season opening meet

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Simpson men's cross country team opened the 2020 season with eight runners finishing in the top 10 to defeat Nebraska Wesleyan in a dual meet on Saturday.

Sophomore Spencer Moon won his first career race with a blistering time of 19:39.69 in the 6K to lead the field of nearly 40 runners. After only competing in three meets last year, senior Harry Dudley started his final year on campus with a second-place performance.

"Our men have high goals for the season and today was a good start towards them," said head coach Heath Moenck. "Spencer Moon looked extremely impressive leading the race from the start. Harry Dudley, who has never finished in our top seven, was incredible today by placing second overall."

Sophomores Noah Nelsen and Eric Baldus cracked the top five for the Storm by finishing third and fourth, respectively. Senior Seth Nostrala, Shane Breheny and Ryan Courtney, along with freshman Andrew Klein all ended inside the top 10 for Simpson.

In their first collegiate meet, freshmen James Murray, Trent Pelzer and Cade Mash tallied top-20 performances to help the Storm tally 15 men inside the top 20.
