Catchpole breaks parallel bars record in final dual meet
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Alex Catchpole set a new parallel bars record and five other gymnasts either tied or broke their career highs in the Simpson College men's gymnastics team's final dual meet of the season against Air Force.
Catchpole earned a 13.800 on parallel bars to break Sterling Pariza's program mark of 13.650 set two weeks ago. His efforts tied Erich Upton for second place honors.
Simpson compiled a season-high 61.700 on floor, the team's second-highest score of the day behind a 66.050 on vault. Camden Bontempo tied for second with a career-best 13.350 and Jack Campbell set a new career high of 12.050.
Michelangelo Villani claimed second in the all-around competition with a season-high 72.600. He scored a career-high 12.800 on high bar to lead the Storm in the rotation. Connor Jenkins and Sammy Shafransky finished behind Villani with 12.450s, both tying their career highs.
Jack Campbell (rings), Charlie Schneider (rings), Shafransky (vault), Brennan Voss (vault), and Brian Rollison (parallel bars) all made their collegiate debuts in a rotation.
Air Force won the dual 395.950 to 347.300.
