Storm continue season at EVO Elite Collegiate Open
SARASOTA, Fla. – Brian Rollison broke his own school record on still rings, Jake Sweeten set a new program mark on high bar, and the Simpson College men's gymnastics team posted a new high bar team record for the second straight week at the EVO Elite Collegiate Open.
Simpson faced off with No. 5 Illinois at the meet as well as non-sanctioned NCAA teams Florida Storm and Georgia United, bringing a score of 366.100 back to Iowa.
The Storm's highest score of the night was a 66.500 on vault followed by a 62.750 on rings, Simpson's second-highest team score on the apparatus. The team also generated a 61.200 on floor, set a new program record of 60.850 on high bar, and collected a 59.550 on parallel bars and 55.250 on pommel horse.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
- Brian Rollison broke his own school record on rings with a 13.900, which tied Illinois' Sebastian Ingersoll for second place in the event. Rollison has earned a 13.200 or higher in each of his four outings this season.
- Christopher Duane led the team on floor with a career-high 12.750. Michelangelo Villani was second on the team with a season-high 12.700.
- Jake Sweeten (13.100), Sammy Shafransky (12.450) and Connor Jenkins (12.000) all set career highs on high bar to contribute to the new program record of 60.850. Sweeten is now the school record older for high bar.
- Milo Staley finished second in the all-around competition behind Illinois' Tate Costa. Staley registered a 72.250, while Costa earned an 80.850.
