Pariza, Sweeten lead Storm at Illinois Tri-Meet

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Sophomores Sterling Pariza and Jake Sweeten led the way for the Simpson College men's gymnastics team at a tri-meet with Illinois and William & Mary.

Pariza captured third in the all-around competition and placed himself atop the program's parallel bars leaderboard, while Sweeten earned two career highs as well as a season-best score in three of the four events he competed in.

As a team, Simpson finished in third place with a 363.050. Illinois compiled a team score of 410.500 and William & Mary posted a 374.950.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Sterling Pariza became the Storm's highest-scoring competitor on parallel bars with a 13.650. He was previously tied with Alex Catchpole atop the leaderboard.
• Pariza also tied his season-high score on floor (12.950) en route to a third place all-around finish (75.700).
• Jake Sweeten led the Storm on pommel horse and rings, setting new career highs on both apparatuses. He scored a 12.150 on pommel and a 12.700 on rings.
• Sweeten also registered a season-high 11.400 on parallel bars.
• Michelangelo Villani earned a career-high 12.600 on rings, while Jack Campbell set a personal best on vault (13.200).
• Brennan Voss made his collegiate debut on pommel horse and scored an 11.600 to finish third on the team.

Simpson heads to Greenville for another road meet on March 9. Action will begin at 1 p.m.
