Simpson sets four team records in home opener

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College men's gymnastics squad set four program records on Saturday inside Cowles Fieldhouse, including a new overall team score of 376.350.

The Storm managed to improve their highest-ever team score by nearly 10 points much thanks to program-record scores on rings (63.000), vault (68.550) and high bar (60.700). Simpson also notched its second-highest team marks on pommel horse (61.050) and parallel bars (61.700).

Greenville won all six events and also set a program record as a team, finishing the day with an all-around mark of 392.950.

INDIVIDUAL STANDOUTS

  • Brian Rollison won his first career event title with a 13.200 on still rings. In his first three collegiate meets, he has posted the top 3 scores by any Simpson gymnast in the event.
  • Jake Smith placed third on rings (12.900) and high bar (12.650), leading the Storm on the latter.
  • Sterling Pariza finished second on parallel bars with a career-high 13.300, which ties Alex Catchpole's school record. Pariza also placed third on pommel horse with a career-high 13.100, led the team on floor (12.950) and finished second on the team on vault (13.800).
  • Michelangelo Villani earned a personal-best vault score of 14.200 to secure third place honors. His score was the second-highest in school history.
  • Milo Staley garnered the individual all-around title with a career-high 73.650. He set personal bests on rings (12.700) and vault (13.800)
  • Sammy Shafransky set personal bests on both of the events he competed in, earning a 12.050 on parallel bars and 12.000 on high bar.
