Men’s gymnastics concludes home schedule against Navy
INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College men's gymnastics team closed its 2023 home schedule by hosting Navy on Thursday night inside Cowles Fieldhouse.
In a tight competition between Milo Staley and Michelangelo Villani in the all-around, Staley came out on top with a score of 66.75. Villani was less than a point behind, placing second with a 66.05. Both freshmen posted their best scores on vault, with Villani earning a team-best 13.75 and Staley recording a 13.05. Staley also set a personal best on parallel bars (12.1) en route to his first career event title.
Sterling Pariza claimed two podium finishes on the night. He finished in third place on floor with a program record 13.25 and tied with Alex Catchpole for third on pommel horse (11.9). Catchpole was Simpson's lead-scorer on parallel bars as well with a 12.3.
Camden Bontempo and Ethan Sipos led the Storm on high bar with a score of 11.65. It was the second straight meet Sipos set a new personal best on the apparatus. Noah Placiente also made his collegiate debut during the rotation, collecting a score of 11.4.
Kyle Kincade was .1 of a point away from tying his own school record on still rings as he finished first on the team with a 12.5.
The Storm closed their home slate with a team score of 346.400, while the Midshipmen left Indianola with a 381.850.
Up Next
Simpson will prepare for a road trip to Springfield, Mass. where the Storm will compete in the USAG Championships taking place on March 24-25.
