Storm win vault to highlight inaugural home meet

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College men's gymnastics program made history twice on Sunday, competing at home for the first time and winning their first event title as a team.

Simpson outscored William and Mary 65.250-62.650 on vault to secure its first team title. The Storm were led by Sterling Pariza's 13.400 in the event, which was the highest score by a Simpson gymnast in any event this season. Michelangelo Villani (13.150) and Camden Bontempo (13.050) were next followed by Kyle Kincade (12.900) and Milo Staley (12.750).

Pariza, who finished runner-up in the all-around competition, also led the Storm on still rings (11.450) and high bar (11.050), while ranking second on floor with a 11.950 behind Villani who registered a team-best 12.050.

Alex Catchpole was another top performer for the Storm, leading the team with a 10.450 on pommel and a 12.250 on parallel bars which earned third place. Staley finished second for Simpson on parallel bars with an 11.300 and earned a bronze medal of his own in the all-around competition.

Overall, Simpson scored 318.250 points in comparison to William and Mary's 360.750.

Up Next
Simpson continues its inaugural season at the Navy Open taking place in Annapolis, Md. on Jan. 21. The Storm will compete against Army, Navy, Ohio State, Penn State, Springfield and William and Mary.
