Simpson records season-high team score at Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. – The Simpson College men's gymnastics team improved its season-high team score by over 11 points on Saturday at Oklahoma.

The Storm finished with a score of 352.550 while setting new season-highs on pommel horse (55.900) and high bar (55.250).

Simpson's entire floor lineup set season-bests as the team earned a score of 61.500 in the first rotation of the night. Camden Bontempo had a team-high 12.750 followed by Kyle Kincade (12.650) and Milo Staley (12.600).

On pommel horse, the Storm registered their new season-high thanks to four additional personal bests. Ethan Sipos ranked first for Simpson with an 11.700, Staley came in second with an 11.650 and Alex Catchpole rounded out the team's top-three with an 11.500.

Michelangelo Villani, who finished runner-up in the all-around competition, led the team with a 12.300 on still rings. Jake Sweeten was next with a 12.150 as Simpson ended with a 56.600.

On vault, Simpson had four gymnasts eclipse 13.000 led by Bontempo with a season-high 13.850. Christopher Duane, who made his collegiate debut on both floor and vault, earned a 13.450 along with Kincade and Villani. The Storm compiled a 67.100 to narrowly miss another program record in the event.

Sterling Pariza and Catchpole tied for the team-high on parallel bars with a 12.250, leading Simpson to a score of 56.200. Kincade made his season debut and earned an 11.200 to land in the Storm's top three.

In the final event of the night, Bontempo earned the highest score of any Storm gymnast this season on high bar. The freshman received a 12.400 to finish first on the team for the third event. Villani (11.750) and Staley (11.500) both had season-bests on the apparatus as well.

The No. 2-ranked Sooners won all six events and amassed a team score of 407.650.
