Simpson hosts first DIII tri-meet in over 40 years

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Kyle Kincade set a new program record on still rings and Sterling Pariza placed third in the all-around competition to lead the Simpson College men's gymnastics team against Division III foes Springfield and Greenville.

The tri-meet featured the only three DIII programs in the nation and marked the first all-DIII meet since the early 1980's.

Kincade placed himself on the top of Simpson's rings leaderboard with a score of 12.6 from the fourth spot. Pariza led off the rotation with a 12.1 and Milo Staley finished third on the team with an 11.75, both career-highs.

Pariza finished top-2 for Simpson in the other five events as well en route to a career-high all-around score of 75.55. Along with his personal-best rings score, he tallied career-highs on vault (13.75) and parallel bars (12.0). The Dallas, Texas native added a 13.0 on floor, an 11.85 on pommel and a 11.95 on high bar. His floor and high bar scores led the Storm.

Staley competed in all six events for the third time this season and improved his all-around score by just under seven points with a 72.05. He led the team on pommel horse (12.1) and earned his highest score of the day on vault (13.0).

Fueled by a team-best 13.9 on vault and career-high 11.9 on high bar, Michelangelo Villani finished the day with an all-around score of 68.5. Alex Catchpole recorded a 13.0 to lead Simpson on parallel bars, his second straight meet earning at least a 13.0.

The Storm posted a 357.550 overall to finish the meet in third place. Simpson had its highest score of the day on vault (67.25) and set a new team record on high bar (57.45).

Greenville won the tri-meet with a 384.750 and Springfield recorded a 381.05.
