Men’s gymnastics makes program debut at Michigan tri-meet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Simpson College men's gymnastics team made its program debut on Saturday at a tri-meet hosted by Michigan.

The Storm recorded an overall score of 341.350 on the day, while Michigan compiled a score of 400.600 and Greenville registered a 373.100.

Simpson's strongest event was the vault with a team score of 62.600. Michelangelo Villani led the way with a 13.250 and Connor Jenkins was next with a 12.700.

Alex Catchpole earned Simpson's highest placing of the day with a 12.900 score on parallel bars to rank sixth of 15 competitors. Sterling Pariza was right behind him with a 12.850 and Jenkins recorded a 12.250 to round out Simpson's top-3 in the rotation.

Camden Bontempo finished top-2 for Simpson in a pair of events, leading the Storm with a 12.050 for his routine on the high bar and finishing second on floor exercise (11.650) behind Pariza (11.650). Other top performers for the Storm included Ethan Sipos on pommel horse (11.250) and Jake Sweeten on still rings (12.150).
