Men’s gymnastics competes at Navy Open
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Simpson College men's gymnastics team flew east to compete against three fellow Eastern College Athletic Conference members and two Big Ten programs at the Navy Open.
The Storm posted season-high event scores on both floor and vault and finished the day with an all-around score of 337.900.
Ohio State took the team title with a score of 405.350, while Penn State (395.450) claimed second and Navy (386.050) earned third. William & Mary scored a 370.350 and Springfield recorded a 367.300.
All five of Simpson's floor competitors recorded personal-best marks as the Storm compiled a program-high score of 61.900 in the rotation. Sterling Pariza led the way with a 12.850, Milo Staley was next with a 12.550 and Michelangelo Villani posted a 12.200. Kyle Kincade (12.150) and Camden Bontempo (12.150) rounded out the team's scoring five.
On vault, the Storm turned in a season-best score of 67.300 led by Villani (14.050) who became the first Simpson gymnast to receive a score higher than 14 in any event. Bontempo (13.700), Kincade (13.600) and Staley (13.250) all recorded personal bests as well.
Along with his career-best scores on floor and vault, Villani notched season highs on parallel bars (11.300) and high bar (11.25) to end the day with an all-around score of 70.000 points. Pariza compiled an all-around score of 68.75 and Staley finished with a 65.35, both personal-bests.
