Storm drop road contest to Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Simpson College men's basketball team returned to action for the first time in 10 days and came up short in a 69-48 road contest to Dubuque on Saturday evening.

Dubuque (11-5, 6-1 A-R-C) led wire-to-wire and took a 36-28 tilt at half after jumping out to a 7-0 advantage in the opening minutes and scoring 11 of the final 16 points following a three-point bucket from Jack Hutchinson that had Simpson (4-10, 1-4 A-R-C) within two points of the home team.

Deontei Johnson opened the second half with a layup to pull the Storm within two possessions, but the Spartans responded with a 15-4 run over the course of six and a half minutes to place the score at 51-34. Simpson committed five turnovers and was held to 25 percent shooting during that time. The offensive struggle only got worse for the Storm as they were held to 3-of-17 shooting the rest of the way while the Spartans continued to build on their lead.

Chris Honz was Simpson's lone double-digit scorer as he tallied 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting to go with a team-high six rebounds. Buck Eagleburger and Hutchinson each added seven points and combined for eight assists, while nine others registered a point for the Storm.
