INDIANOLA, Iowa – Aided by a 24-4 run in the first half, Buena Vista defeated the Simpson College men's basketball team 88-74 on Wednesday evening inside Cowles Fieldhouse.
Caden Rehmeier opened the game going 4-for-4 from the floor and a trio of others chipped in scores as the two teams battled out to a 16-15 game in favor of the visitors. The Beavers (6-8, 3-2 A-R-C) then used a big run to pull away from the Storm (4-9, 1-3 A-R-C) and claim a 40-19 lead with 4:33 left in the half. Simpson cut into the deficit with a 11-0 spurt but trailed 46-33 at the break.
In the second half, Simpson was led by Chris Honz who scattered 10 points and three rebounds. Andrew Curran added seven points, Marcus McCray scored seven in five minutes and Ben Wolgemuth knocked down both of his three-pointers.
Rehmeier made 6-of-7 from the floor including all three attempts from deep for a team-high 15 points, while Curran and Honz finished with 12 apiece. Curran and Buck Eagleburger were the Storm's lead rebounders with five each.
