Simpson hits century mark, cruises to victory in home opener

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Caden Rehmeier scored 24 points, all eleven players got into the scoring and rebounding columns, and the Simpson College men's basketball team reached the century mark for the first time this season in a 101-64 home win over Faith Baptist Bible.

Simpson (1-2) used three-pointers from six different players, including five with multiple, to take a 55-26 lead into the locker room. A Trent Williamson 3-pointer gave the Storm their first lead at 7-5 and Simpson later drained triples on five consecutive possessions as part of a 15-0 run happening within just two minutes. During the stretch, Williamson cashed in on his second, Rehmeier made two, and Jack Hutchinson's second put the home team up 32-12.

In the second half, the Storm led by as many as 40 after a 16-5 spurt gave Simpson a 90-50 advantage with 7:10 left in the contest. Rehmeier fueled the drive with eight points while Andrew Curran and Brock Jensen each chipped in a score from behind the arc.

Rehmeier led all scorers with 24 points including 14 in the second half alone. The freshman from Indianola, Iowa was 9-of-12 from the floor and had four triples in seven attempts.

Williamson (14) and Hutchinson (12) both hit double figure scoring for the first time in their careers, Curran posted 13 points and had five assists, and Buck Eagleburger tied his season-high of 10 points to round out the Storm's top scorers.

Deontei Johnson hauled in nine rebounds to lead the team while Chris Honz added six and Marcus McCray had five to go with five steals. Simpson shared the ball well during the contest with all but three players registering more than one assist.
