Simpson falls to Central on the road

PELLA, Iowa – Despite two more touchdowns from Reed Worth and career-high rushing yards from Desmond Alexander, the Simpson College football team fell 49-17 to Central on the road.

Central (5-2, 3-2 A-R-C) scored a pair of touchdowns around a 31-yard field goal by Micah Baumhoefner to take a 14-3 lead into the second quarter. The Dutch added another score 44 seconds into the frame, but the Storm (0-7, 0-5 A-R-C) countered with a touchdown of their own to stay within reach, 21-10. The 10-play, 67-yard drive was capped off by a two-yard touchdown pass from J Jensen III to Worth.

Another long drive by the Dutch resulted in a Logan Mont rushing touchdown at the 6:52 mark of the second. Mont threw his second touchdown of the day before the half was over and the home team extended its lead to 32 with a touchdown to start the third quarter. Jensen and Worth connected for another two-yard touchdown before Central closed the day's scoring with a 24-yard pass from Brady Ketchum to Carson Cummer.

The Dutch amassed 680 yards of total offense including 403 yards through the air. Ketchum and Cooper Downs went a combined 18-for-27 for 248 yards and four touchdowns, while Hunter Hoffman, Keegan Glover and Mont were 12-for-19 for 155 yards and two scores. Ryan Neu led all receivers with 93 yards and two touchdowns, and Glover had seven carries for a team-high 66 yards.

Alexander rushed 26 times for a career-high 104 yards. Hunter Dahlgren led the Storm receivers with 69 yards, and Jensen completed 19 of 38 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns.

Wyatt Schaben registered 13 tackles followed by Mekhi Holmes with a season-high 10. Mason Little tallied his second interception of the season to go with two tackles.
