Football drops league opener to Coe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Carter Maske threw for three touchdowns, Ray Seidel ran in two more and Coe defeated the Simpson College football team 48-10 in American Rivers Conference action Saturday.

After a 37-yard field goal by Parker Hansen trimmed the Storm's deficit to 7-3, the Kohawks (3-1, 2-0 A-R-C) rattled off 41 unanswered points to pull away from their guests. Maske threw all three of his touchdowns in the final 5:44 of the first half and Seidel found the endzone on back-to-back possessions in the third quarter after Coe had already taken advantage of a 95-yard kickoff return to start the half.

Simpson (0-3, 0-1 A-R-C) scored its lone touchdown of the day with 1:15 left in the third. J Jensen III connected with Reed Worth for 34 yards to start the drive and Desmond Alexander rushed for 23 yards before hauling in a 10-yard pass from Jensen for his second touchdown of the year. Aubrey Gillard (10 yards) and Hunter Dahlgren (25 yards) also caught passes from Jensen who went 5-for-6 during the 10-play, 92-yard drive.

Jensen ended the day with 246 passing yards, finding eight different receivers including Worth who had seven catches for 97 yards. Alexander led the team with 69 yards on the ground.

Micheal Robinson Jr. paced the defense with seven tackles while Nico Pelkey had six to go with a forced fumble early in the fourth quarter.

Maske had just four incompletions in 17 attempts and compiled 186 yards through the air in his first start for the Kohawks this season. His three scores late in the second quarter came after a failed fake punt, a fumble and a turnover on downs.
