Worth shines in Homecoming loss to Duhawks

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Senior Reed Worth scored twice and racked up a career-high 239 yards in Simpson College football's 63-21 Homecoming loss to Loras on Saturday.

Worth finished the day with 11 catches highlighted by a 60-yard touchdown reception midway through the second quarter, a 27-yard touchdown catch in the third, and a 50-yard grab that set up the Storm's final score of the day. The senior sits atop the American Rivers Conference with eight receiving touchdowns and has found the endzone twice in three contests this season.

Loras (4-3, 3-2 A-R-C) scored the first points of the day at the 8:58 mark after a blocked punt on the Storm's opening drive. The visitors doubled their lead a few possessions later when Josh Rydberg scooped up a fumble and returned it 40 yards for a 14-0 advantage.

Da'Mani Brown extended the lead to 21 with a 6-yard touchdown catch, but Simpson (0-6, 0-4 A-R-C) responded just two plays later when Worth hauled in J Jensen III's 60-yard strike. The momentum looked to be swaying in favor of the Storm as Micheal Robinson Jr. recovered a Loras fumble on the ensuing possession, but the home team coughed it right back up and the Duhawks cashed in on the miscue for a 29-7 halftime lead.

Simpson looked poised to pull within two scores on its first drive of the third quarter. The Storm made their way into Duhawk territory following a 25-yard pickup by Worth, and another long reception from Jensen to Worth on fourth down put Simpson inside the red zone with a fresh set of downs. The home team made it as far as the three-yard line before it was all wiped away with a 100-yard pick six by Jace Gwynn.

The Storm continued to battle as Worth and Hunter Dahlgren each found the endzone on consecutive drives. However, the scoring was matched by the Duhawks and they carried a 49-21 edge into the final 15 minutes. Marty McGovern scored twice in the fourth to set the final score at 63-21.

Up against one of the toughest rushing defenses in the league, Simpson managed just 38 yards. The Storm also struggled on third down, converting 5 of 17.

Robinson Jr. and Wyatt Schaben led the team with 16 tackles apiece. Zach Truitt added 10 and Terrhyn Jacoby had nine.

Jensen finished the day with 357 passing yards, completing 23 of 48 attempts. Dahlgren recorded five catches for 50 yards, while Cameron Jones contributed 32 yards on four catches.
