Spartans take down Storm in A-R-C action

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Simpson College football team went back on the road to face Dubuque in a late afternoon American Rivers Conference matchup on Saturday. The Spartans found their groove early and rolled to a 66-14 win over the Storm.

Dubuque (3-3, 3-1 A-R-C) claimed full control of the game right away, racing out to a 21-0 lead before the 10-minute mark of the first quarter. The Spartans added two more scores of more than 60 yards before the frame was over and carried a 45-7 lead into the locker room. The home team tacked on two touchdowns in the third and each squad scored once in the opening minutes of the fourth.

Reed Worth was on the receiving end of both the Storm's touchdowns. He scored on a 25-yard pass from J Jensen III in the second quarter and a 15-yard pass from Jerad Fischer in the third. The senior finished the game with 139 yards on five receptions.

Kallion Buckner rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Spartans, who amassed 648 yards of total offense. Brandon Coppola added a score on the ground and the trio of Todd Simmons, Za'Cameron Brice and Jamari Jenkins each had one receiving touchdown. Dubuque's three quarterbacks went a combined 23-for-29 for 360 yards.

Defensively for Simpson (0-5, 0-3 A-R-C), Alex Hommer and Zach Truitt logged a game-high seven tackles while Wyatt Schaden and Nico Pelkey both added six. The Spartans were led by defensive back Elijah Diblich who tallied six tackles and two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown in the opening quarter.
