Davis named IIAC Female Athlete of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Simpson's Taylor Davis earned Iowa Conference Female Athlete and Softball Position Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, April 1, the league office announced Monday.

IIAC Performers of the Week

The senior third-baseman hit .462 with three home runs and 10 RBIs in four games last week, getting all three long balls in a doubleheader sweep over Buena Vista in the Iowa Conference opener on Saturday, March 31. The Storm beat the Beavers 6-2 in game one and 3-1 in game two for their first sweep in an IIAC opener since 2014.

The Carlisle High School product had a career day against Buena Vista, going 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs in the opener. She homered again in game two, launching a two-run shot that proved to be the difference in the Storm's 3-1 triumph.

Davis went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI in a 13-5 loss to Grinnell to start the week. She came back with a 2-for-4, two-RBI effort in game two, an 8-6 setback to the Pioneers.

Following a junior season in which she hit just .160, Davis is hitting .466 and leads the IIAC in hits (34) and RBIs (29). Her 29 RBIs are just three less than her career total entering the season.

This marks the second-consecutive week Female Athlete of the Week and Softball Position Player of the Week honors are going to Simpson after Kasiah Ehresman took home the honor for the period ending March 25.
