Storm earn sweep in Florida, surpass last year’s win total

CLERMONT, Fla. -- What a difference a year makes.

The Simpson softball team picked up a pair of wins Thursday at the PFX Sprin Games, beating Emmanuel (Mass.) 5-1 and North Central (Minn.) 13-0 to surpass last year's win total in just 10 games.

The Storm improved to 9-1 with the big win over North Central, passing up last year's eight wins. Simpson went 8-28 in 2017.

Kaleigh Snyder went 2-for-3 and Sara Trent drove in two runs on a double in the third as the Storm opened up a 5-0 lead in the first five innings. Emily Bell held the Saints to one run in six innings, striking out five to improve to 4-0. Taylor Davis drove in a run on on a single in the first and Annie Stolte drove in a run on a double in the fifth.

Simpson 13, North Central (Minn.) 0 (five innings)
The Storm broke open a 2-0 game with an 11-run fifth inning. Taylor Davis drove in three of her career-high four RBIs on a bases-clearing double in the inning as the Storm pounded out eight hits in the frame. Davis and Kayla Reusche had two hits apiece to help back hurlers Emily Schilke and Arianna Kim, who combined to one-hit the Rams. Schilke fanned four in three innings and Kim struck out two in two hitless frames.
