Reusche breaks school record, Storm split to close Florida trip

CLERMONT, Fla. -- Kayla Reusche broke the school record for times hit by a pitch in a season and the Simpson softball team closed its successful Spring Break trip to the PFX Games on Saturday. The Storm lost to Olivet 6-3 in the opener before beating Stevenson 10-5 in the nightcap.

Reusche was hit by a pitch for the 12th time this season in the first inning of the game against Stevenson, breaking the mark of 11 set by Sara Kahler in 2004. The Storm close the week with a mark of 11-3, three more wins than all of 2017.

Olivet 6, Simpson 3
The Storm got out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning but surrendered four runs in the sixth inning to suffer the loss. Konoor Geiger hit a two-run homer and Courtney Willson followed with a solo shot to put Olivet in the lead for good.

Madison Rasmusson went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI to lead the Storm at the plate. Emily Bell allowed one run off three hits in four innings in the start.

Simpson 10, Stevenson 5
Taylor Davis went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs and the Storm scored five runs in the first two innings to build a big lead.

Stevenson pulled within 7-5 after a four-run fourth but Simpson responded with three in the fifth, getting two of the bat of Davis' two-run shot to center, her first long ball since the 2016 season. Arianna Kim got the win in the circle, allowing four runs off five hits in 3 2/3 innings. Rasmusson and Ashlee Mayorga drove in two runs apiece.
