Storm suffer first lost, respond with big win

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Simpson softball team suffered its first loss of the season in a 5-4 setback against St. Vincent to open the day but got back on the winning track with a 21-0, five-inning triumph over Rosemont at the PFX Spring Games on Tuesday.

St. Vincent 5, Simpson 4
Five Simpson errors resulted in five unearned runs for St. Vincent as the Storm fell for the first time in 2018. Despite the miscues, Simpson came back to tie the game after trailing 4-0 only to give up the winning run on an error in the top of the seventh. Madison Rasmusson led Simpson with a 4-for-4 effort at the plate, driving in one. Emily Bell gave up four runs off four hits in four innings in the circle, striking out two. Kelli Hanson suffered the loss, giving up two hits in 2 1/3 innings.

Simpson 21, Rosemont 0 (five innings)
The Storm responded to their first loss by scoring 17 runs in the first inning of a 21-0 win over Rosemont. Simpson pounded out 18 hits in the run-ruled contest. Ashley Allen went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Brooke Brommel drove in four runs on two hits. Mary Leopold earned the win in the circle, allowing just one hit with three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings of work. Emily Schilke closed the game, holding Rosemont hitless in the final 1 1/3 innings.
