A.J. Andrews set to speak at Simpson softball's Winter Diamond Dinner

INDIANOLA, Iowa — A.J. Andrews, the first woman to win a Rawlings Gold Glove Award, is set as the keynote speaker for the Winter Diamond Dinner hosted by the Simpson College softball team on Friday, Dec. 8.

Andrews is an outfielder for the Akron Racers of the National Pro Fastpitch League and is known for her diving catches and incredible work ethic. Off the field, she promotes equal pay and body positivity among women and was featured in ESPN The Magazine's annual Body Issue this year.

The Rawlings Gold Glove Award is given annually to Major League Baseball and National Pro Fastpitch players who exhibit superior individual fielding performances at each fielding position. Andrews stands beside Derek Jeter, Anthony Rizzo and Jason Heyward as past Rawlings Gold Glove Award recipients.

The Simpson College softball team is hosting the Winter Diamond Dinner to kick-off its 2018 season, celebrate the success of their previous season and honor the game of softball.

"We are so excited to have Miss Andrews speak at our Winter Diamond Dinner," Simpson head softball coach Brent Matthias said. "Being the first woman ever to win a Rawlings Gold Glove is such a huge accomplishment, and I think her speaking about empowering women with the 'you can do anything' attitude is a great message for our players and guests."

The event costs $20 to attend and is open to the public. The registration fee includes dinner, as well as a cash bar. Social hour will begin at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held in Hubbell Hall of the Kent Campus Center at Simpson College.

To register for the event, visit www.simpson.edu/sbwdd or call 515-961-1337 by Thursday, Dec. 7.
