Storm stumble against 23rd-ranked Central

PELLA, Iowa -- The Simpson softball team couldn't get its bats going in a doubleheader loss to No. 23 Central on Saturday, losing game one 7-2 before falling 8-0 in six innings in the nightcap.

Missing the services of hard-hitting third-baseman Taylor Davis, the Storm (17-9, 3-3 Iowa Conference) managed just seven hits against Central pitching on the day. The Dutch (16-6, 3-1) won for the fourth time in five games.

Game One

Central 7, Simpson 2

Emily Walton went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Mariah Fritz went the distance in the circle to lead Central to the game-one win. Central led 3-2 in the third before Lauren Bagby drove in two on a single to give the Dutch a three-run cushion, one the Storm couldn't overcome.

After spotting Central a three-run lead Simpson got to Fritz in the third. Madison Rasmusson drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly and Kayla Reusche scored on an error -- Central's second of the inning -- to pull within one.

Simpson threatened in the seventh trailing 7-2, loading the bases before Fritz induced a flyout to end the game.
