Allen named second team Academic All-American

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Simpson softball player Ashley Allen has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Softball Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The junior earned second team honors to become Simpson's first Academic All-American since 2005.

An all-conference catcher from Laurel, Iowa, Allen becomes just the fifth Academic All-American in school history and first in 13 years. The hard-hitting right-hander earned honorable mention All-Iowa Conference honors after hitting .393 with a school record-tying 18 doubles, one home run and 30 RBIs in 2018. She helped direct a 13-game turnaround, as the Storm went 21-16 and qualified for the conference tournament after missing out in 2017.

Allen carries a 3.90 GPA as a sports administration major. She is one of just two players from the Iowa Conference to earn the honor, joining Luther's Anna Strien.
