Storm silenced by Spartans on the road

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Simpson College baseball team could not muster any runs and suffered a pair of losses to Dubuque in Saturday's American Rivers Conference doubleheader action.

Coming off a 19-strikeout effort on Friday, Dubuque (17-8, 6-4 A-R-C) continued to shut down Simpson's offense en route to 5-0 and 1-0 victories. The Spartan pitching staff limited the Storm (9-16, 2-8 A-R-C) to just five hits between both games.

Eli Feekin had a tremendous start for Simpson in the nightcap, tallying a career-high 11 strikeouts while scattering just two hits and two walks across eight scoreless innings. Both teams threatened to break the tie in the eighth, but each left a pair of runners stranded to keep things deadlocked at 0-0. JD Schaffer delivered the game-winning single for Dubuque in the bottom of the ninth.

In the opener, the Spartans scored two runs on three hits in the first and added to their total with an RBI single by Jake Cekander in the second. Colin Husko drove in two more runs in the fourth to make the score 5-0. The Storm held the hosts to just one walk and one hit the rest of the way, but faced offensive struggles of their own and could not score.
