Beavers outlast Storm in 15 innings

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Tyson McAlexander tied the game with a two-run triple in the seventh inning, but Buena Vista scored the winning run eight innings later, defeating the Simpson College baseball team 3-2 in Friday's American Rivers Conference opener.

Joel Garcia provided the knockout punch for the Beavers (12-4, 1-0 A-R-C) via a walk-off single to shallow left field with two outs down in the bottom of the 15th inning. Drew Taylor scored on the play after reaching on a fielder's choice and stealing second.

The Storm (7-9, 0-1 A-R-C) had runners at second and third in the 12th inning as well as a runner at third in the 15th, but were unable to push one across for the lead.

Trey Castile and Eli Feekin combined for 18 strikeouts and held the conference's top offensive team to just eight singles and four walks.

  • Trey Castile now has 225 career strikeouts. He is 15 strikeouts away from tying Brady Held's program record of 240.
  • The Storm pitching staff has tallied double-digit strikeouts in nine of 16 games, recording 18 on three occasions.
