WAVERLY - Jake Barr doubled home the winning run in the ninth inning of game two and Simpson earned a split in Saturday's doubleheader at Hertel Field.
Barr went 1-for-4 with three RBIs in game two as the Storm (15-7, 8-2 Iowa Conference) salvaged the final game of the three-game set. Wartburg won Saturday's first game 4-0 before Simpson won 6-3 in nine innings in the nightcap. Wartburg won Friday's game 11-1.
Game 1 - Wartburg 4, Simpson 0
Scott Benson (3-4) pitched a complete-game one-hitter in Wartburg's 4-0 win.
Patruck Grau went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs for the Knights.
Tyler Crandell managed Simpson's only hit with a single in the sixth. Paul Brown (3-2) suffered the loss, striking out eight in six innings of work.
Game 2 - Simpson 6, Wartburg 3
Tyler Craig forced extra innings with an RBI single in the seventh and Barr doubled home the winning run in the ninth in Simpson's 6-3 win.
Justin Svehla went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Blake Heitmeier drove in a run and Dave Johnson went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Chris Dorff (5-2) turned in a quality start, scattering eight hits and allowing three runs - two earned.
Trailing 3-2 in the seventh, Brett Crable led off the inning with a single before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Johnson. Craig then singled down the left field line to tie it up.
Johnson doubled to lead off the ninth and Trent Svehla drew a one-out walk. Both scored on Barr's double, who scored on a single by Justin Svehla.
Nathan Rost went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for the Knights. He took the loss on the mound, throwing 2 1/3 innings in relief. He allowed four runs off five hits.
Simpson has three days off before going to Pella on Wednesday, April 13 for one, nine-inning game against Central. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
