Svehla named IIAC Athlete of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS - Simpson baseball player Trent Svehla earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Athlete of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, April 3 after going a perfect 9-for-9 from the plate during the week.

Svehla, a senior outfielder from Lincoln, Neb., didn't record an out as the Storm swept a three-game series from host Loras.

He had four hits and three RBIs in the series opener on April 1. Svehla improved his batting average from .294 to .538 while helping the Storm to its best start in conference play since 1999.

Simpson won game one 9-4 in Friday's nine-inning contest and took Saturday's doubleheader by 2-1 and 6-2 finals.

The honor marks the second week in a row a Simpson player has been named IIAC Male Athlete of the Week after pitcher Mike Huyser earned the distinction March 27.
