Simpson comes from behind for 9-4 win over Loras

INDIANOLA - Trent Svehla went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and Chris Dorff picked up his third win of the season as Simpson came from behind to beat Loras 9-4 on Friday.

After allowing two runs off three hits in the first inning, Dorff (3-2) settled down and held Dubuque to six hits and two runs for the next seven innings. The junior struck out seven for the Storm (10-5, 3-0 Iowa Conference), who scored six unearned runs off five errors.

Svehla started the game with a sacrifice fly in the first inning before collecting base hits in his next four at-bats. Leadoff hitter Tyler Crandell hit three singles and drove in a pair, sparking a sixth-inning rally with an RBI single.

Simpson trailed 3-1 before scoring two runs in the fifth.

Tied 3-3, Simpson opened a comfortable lead with four runs in the top of the sixth thanks to five base hits and a pair of Duhawk errors. Dave Johnson, Drew Yarkosky and Svehla also drove in runs in the inning.

Austin Brown went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Jeremy Gerardy (1-2) took the loss in six innings on the mound for the Duhawks (7-10, 0-4)

The two teams return to action in a doubleheader on Saturday at Petrakis Park. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
