Simpson falls to Buena Vista in opener

STORM LAKE - Justin Svehla drove in Simpson's only run as Buena Vista took the opening game of a three-game set Friday, 5-1.
Luke Probasco allowed one run in 7 2/3 innings, striking out four for the Beavers (16-11, 7-6 Iowa Conference). Brock Yossi went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and five different players drove in one run apiece.
Svehla went 2-for-2 and brought home Trent Svehla with a base hit in the sixth inning for the Storm (18-9, 11-4). Mike Huyser went six innings on the mound, allowing three runs.
Mike Hoffman drove in the first run of the game with a double in the first and Dylan Colo followed with a run-scoring single in the second. Andy Compton closed the scoring with a solo homer in the eighth.
Simpson and Buena Vista finish their three-game series Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
