#StormTop10 Individual Performances No. 3: Coughenour captures multiple All-America honors
Becoming an All-American is an accomplishment of a lifetime. Becoming an All-American twice in the same year is on another level altogether.
Simpson junior Jordan Coughenour did just that in 2017, helping the Storm 4x400-meter relay to a seventh place finish at indoor nationals and coming out of nowhere to place seventh in the 400-meter hurdles outdoors. He is Simpson's first multi-time All-American since 1997 and just the 20th in school history.
Coughenour teamed up with Chase Wetterling, Travis Tupper and Kirk Wicks in the indoor 4x400, running 3:19.98 to place seventh. Simpson came in seeded 10th of 12 teams but managed to become the program's first All-Americans in the event since 1990.
In the outdoor season, Coughenour snuck into the national field with the 17th qualifying time of 20 entries in the 400 hurdles. His good fortune continued when he snagged the ninth and final lane for the final. He went on to run a career-best 52.77 in the final, the second-fastest time in school history. Only 10-time All-American and Olympian Kip Janvrin has run the event faster, setting the school record 29 years ago.
Coughenour won his second-straight Iowa Conference championship in the 400 hurdles in 2017 and earned Iowa Conference Track Performer of the Week honors on April 9.
