#StormTop10 Moments No. 2: Garrett Pochop, MVP
Nobody had a better season for the Simpson Storm in 2016-17 than men's soccer player Garrett Pochop.
The junior midfielder from Pierre, S.D. became just the second Iowa Conference Men's Soccer MVP in school history and first since 2000 when he scored a school-record 22 goals in 2016. He finished the season fourth in Division III in goals scored and sixth with 51 total points.
Pochop dominated opponents throughout the season, but did the most damage late in the year. After the Storm suffered a four-game losing streak, Pochop put the team on his back. He scored 12 goals in the final eight games, leading Simpson to a 6-2 record during the span and a win over Central in the first round of the IIAC Tournament.
In addition to his performance on the field, the economics major got it done in the classroom as well. Pochop was named a CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American for maintaining a 3.95 cumulative GPA.
