#StormTop10 Individual Performances No. 4: Kalinay breaks 26-year old hurdle record

Already one of the top hurdlers in school history, Dylan Kalinay cemented his name in the Simpson record books when he broke a 26-year old record in the 110 hurdles at the Musco Twilight in Iowa City on Saturday, April 22.

That day, the junior from Toledo, Iowa ran a career-best 14.30 to surpass the previous mark of 14.33 set by Hall of Famer Michael Godbout back in 1991. The effort was the third-fastest in Division III at the time and came in at No. 5 by the end of the season.

Kalinay earned Iowa Conference Track Performer of the Week honors for the sixth time in his career the following week.

Though the record-setting effort was reason to celebrate, Kalinay suffered a hamstring injury running the 200 meters later in the meet. He missed the better part of the next three weeks before running the 110 hurdle prelims at the IIAC Championships, posting the top qualifying time. He held out of the final to heal up for nationals.

Kalinay made the cut at outdoor nationals, qualifying for finals for the second year in a row. He narrowly missed All-America honors, running 14.76 to place 10th.
