
Storm fall short against North Central on day one of Cornell Tournament
MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Storm fell to North Central (Ill.) in the first game of the Cornell Tournament this evening. The team combined for 26 kills and 39 digs in the matchup. The loss brings Simpson to 4-4 on the season.
Emily Williams led the team in kills, tallying nine total in three sets. Audrey Behrens led in assists with 15, and Ella Meyer had the most digs with 13.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Storm started slow, falling to an early deficit of 7-3 against North Central, but a pair of kills from Emily Williams brought the team back to a tie at 10-10. A large run by North Central finished the set 25-13.
- Simpson kept the second set close in the beginning with contributions from Emmy Seiler, Lauren Roman, and Blayne Koster. North Central went on a 6-0 run near the end of the set, and Simpson could not fight back to win. North Central took the set 25-11.
- Set three began with an early 8-3 lead for Simpson, marked by two kills from Emily Williams. North Central made a comeback to tie the game at 16-16. The score stayed tied until 19-19. The Storm fell in set three 25-20.
