Storm continues season by competing at Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa - The Simpson College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at the Russell K. Osgood Pool for the second time this season at the Grinnell Invitational.

Jay Ceperley was one of the standout performers for both teams, winning the 200 yard individual medley C final in a time of 2:14.31. Ceperley also swam a season-best 1:57.07 in the 200 yard freestyle, while clocking a time of 52.32 in the 100 yard freestyle, the second-fastest time this year by the Storm. Christopher Olds also set a season-best 2:48.43 in the 200 breaststroke.

Katelyn Smith turned in a good performance in the 500 yard freestyle, coming in second place in the C final with a time of just under six minutes in 5:58.64. Emma Haynes also had a successful meet, swimming a 1:09.62 in the 100 yard individual medley, a career-best.

Haynes was joined by teammates Maude Steinbeck, Breana Hinson, and Katie Oosterhuis in the 200 yard medley relay, swimming a season-best for the Storm (2:06.01). Many eyes were on Kate Minette in the 50 yard freestyle. Minette, the school record holder in the 50 and 100 yard freestyles, qualified for the 50 freestyle A final, finishing eighth out of 63 swimmers, recording her best time of 25.60 in the final.

The Simpson women finished in seventh place overall, while the men took fifth, defeating A-R-C rival Coe in the process. Both teams will travel to Coe on Feb. 4, the final tuneup before the A-R-C Championships.
