Minette grabs second weekly conference honor

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Kate Minette of the Simpson women's swimming and diving team continued her terrific campaign by being named American Rivers Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week for the second time this season.

Minette, the current 50 and 100 yard freestyle school record holder, won both of those events in the dual meet against Saint Mary's (Kan.) on Saturday. The only Storm swimmer to claim an individual event title, Minette won the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 25.82, before taking the 100 yard crown in a time of 57.69 less than an hour later.

Minette then joined teammates Katie Oosterhuis, Emma Haynes, and Katelyn Smith in the 200 yard freestyle relay, swimming the anchor leg. Down just under a second before her 50 yard anchor leg, Minette swam a blistering 25.15 to chase down the leading Saint Mary's A team. Minette's time of 25.15 was the fastest individual leg by any swimmer in the event by almost two seconds.

A quick turnaround, Minette and her teammates travel to Grinnell for a two-day event starting next Friday. Minette set both of her current school records in the same pool back in December.
