Youngsters Krider, Hallgren give Storm 2-0 win

INDIANOLA, Iowa – A pair of first-half goals was all the Simpson women's soccer team needed Wednesday night in a 2-0 shutout of Central at Buxton Stadium.

Freshman Ashlee Krider converted the eventual game-winner 19 minutes into the contest and classmate Taylor Hallgren added an insurance tally in the waning minutes of the first half for Simpson (6-5, 2-1 IIAC), which climbed over the .500 mark for the first time this season.

The Storm defense held Central (1-11, 0-2 IIAC) to nine shots on the evening, as Simpson improved its all-time record against the Dutch to 14-2-1.

Krider's second goal of the season came without an assist, while senior Mollie McMahon provided the help on Hallgren's goal. Hallgren started the action, playing a ball to McMahon which she returned to Hallgren who found the left side of the frame.

Megan Peterson picked up the shutout, making four saves in the process. Shelby Austin grabbed eight saves in the losing effort for Central.

Simpson travels to Decorah for its next contest, a matchup with Luther Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
