Simpson breaks early tie, wins 3-1

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Ashlee Krider broke a 1-1 tie in the second period as the Simpson women's soccer team coasted to a 3-1 victory over Coe Saturday afternoon.

The Storm (7-6, 3-2 IIAC) improved to 5-2 in its last seven matches, including winning three of its last four.

Krider's third goal of the season came courtesy of a Nicole Dillenburg assist in the 52nd minute. Lacey Davis added an insurance goal in the 62nd minute off an assist from Erin Vinnedge.

Dillenburg got Simpson out to 1-0 lead with her team-high sixth score of the season at the 32:32 mark.

Justine Screws scored the only goal of the day for Coe (4-10-1, 2-3 IIAC), tying the match at 1-1 in the 37th minute. The Kohawks lost their second consecutive conference match.

Megan Peterson made three saves in goal for the Storm, while Erin Ridley grabbed one save for Coe.

Simpson returns home for its next match, another IIAC matchup against Cornell Oct. 21 at Buxton Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
