Women's soccer picks up road win at St. Benedict

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Iowa Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week Nicole Dillenburg (Urbandale, Iowa) converted her third goal in two games, providing all the offense Simpson would need in a 1-0 win at St. Benedict Wednesday night.

Despite attempting a season-low three shots, Simpson (4-4) needed only one look and a strong defensive performance in notching a win against the Blazers (3-3-1, 1-1 MIAC).

Dillenburg's goal came in the 58th minute, when she fired a shot into the lower left corner of the goal.

From there, the Simpson defense and goalkeeper Megan Petersen (Fr., Indianola, Iowa) held on, as Petersen grabbed eight saves for the Storm in the shutout effort.

St. Benedict outshot Simpson 11-3 in the game, led by Missy Shelendich's three shots on goal. The Blazers also held the edge in corner kicks at 9-5.

Simpson hits the road again on Saturday when it heads to Waverly for the opening match of the Iowa Conference slate against Wartburg. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
